There is nothing I love quite as much as New York City in fall! Perhaps it's because I'm a November baby or due to my affinity for You've Got Mail, but the leaves changing, the crisp air and the knowledge that all my favorite holidays are coming makes it my favorite time of year.

Fall is, coincidentally, also the BEST time for taking photos in New York City. Leaves start to turn in mid-October and stay up until around Thanksgiving, making it a gorgeous backdrop for marking special occasions. There are an endless amount of places in New York City to take fall photos, but these are my five favorite areas for couples celebrating their engagement.

5 Beautiful NYC Locations for Fall Engagement Photos

1. Central Park , Manhattan

I know what you're thinking, Central Park, duh! Obvious choice! But hear me out: it's so true! Central Park boasts the most expansive area of beautifully colored fall leaves in NYC. With so many iconic landmarks, there are also a ton of options to fit whichever vibe you're looking for.

Want a full on nature experience? Nestle in to Shakespeare's Garden. Desiring a look that feels like you've gone upstate for the weekend? The pond at Bethesda Terrace will give you gorgeous views. Need a bit of city in your photos? A walk down Gapstow Bridge boasts both the foliage and New York's memorable skyscrapers.

2. Prospect Park, Brooklyn

Looking for a more low key experience? Prospect Park, right in the heart of Brooklyn, was designed by the same architects as Central Park and boasts similar beautiful landscaping with a calmer, residential feel. I grew up near Prospect Park and still go twice a week - it's one of my favorite spots to unwind. For more casual but beautiful photos wander through the arches near the main meadows, have a picnic by the Pavillion at Concert Grove or take in the stunning views from the bridge overlooking the Prospect Park Boathouse!

3. West Village, Manhattan

The West Village in Manhattan is like the cool aunt who moved to the city, who you visit on long weekends for shopping trips and brunches at cozy cafés. I love wandering around the winding paths of the Village's townhouses which are often covered in falling leaves and pumpkins on doorsteps. The West Village is a perfect spot if you're looking for a relaxed yet chic fall feel, with just a gentle nod to New York City that doesn't feel too touristy.

4. Upper East and West Sides, Manhattan

The Upper East and West Sides of Manhattan are idyllic for fall engagement photos. Both primarily residential areas, they boast long tree-lined sidewalks leading up to the Central Park, where yellow taxis cruise up and down. On the West Side you'll find classic Brownstone stoops of a variety of designs - from super colorful to pastel to muted browns, all weaving in beautifully with the myriad of hues the foliage contributes. To the East side are beautiful cafés and lightly colored apartment buildings that seem to glisten. My favorite it Museum Mile, a long stretch of 5th Avenue that includes The Met and their iconic steps.

5. Brooklyn Heights

Last but not least is one of my favorite Brooklyn gems, a neighbor to DUMBO in distance and a cousin to the West Village in style, it is a residential neighborhood that sometimes is akin to the pleasant feeling of a small town like Stars Hollow (Gilmore Girls, anyone?!). With a mix of brownstones and townhouses and streets named Pineapple and Berry, the vibe is very calm and relaxing - particularly on a weekend morning. Wander over to the Promenade - a raised walking path - for perfect views of the skyline and an overlook of Dumbo and Brooklyn Bridge Park below.
