Every spring I am so excited at the arrival of warmer weather, longer days and - of course - cherry blossoms! I always feel a spark of glee when inquiries come in requesting a session amidst these delicate blooms. With only a few elusive weeks of the season, I get tons of questions about how to plan a session, so I'd thought I'd share the most popular questions here, with my recommendations.

Where are the best locations in NYC to capture Cherry Blossoms?
In New York City, we are so fortunate that the Cherry Blossoms can be seen in many parts of the city! By far the most popular location is Central Park, where the blossoms can be seen from the (appropriately named) Cherry Hill all the way past the Delacorte Theatre and up to the Reservoir.
Looking for somewhere less busy? I got you!
- In Manhattan, I recommend Riverside Park (where You've Got Mail was filmed!) and Roosevelt Island (take the tram there!)
- In Queens, Flushing Meadows Park is iconic, and the blooms can also be seen around Gantry State Plaza Park in Long Island City.
- In Brooklyn, Prospect Park is a classic choice (Concert Grove is my favorite area for photos) and of course you can't forget The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, where they host an array of cherry blossom related events throughout spring.
When should I inquire about booking and when is the best time to take photos?
Ah, the million dollar question! Cherry blossoms are fickle and depend on the weather and the season. Sometimes they come as early as late March and stay until early April, other times they come in mid-April and last for the first couple weeks of May.
My best recommendation is to reach out in February/March and aim for a session in mid/late April, allowing for some flexibility. As a photographer, although it is a busy season, I am always keeping an eye on the weather and the predictions of the blooms - and checking them out in person too! If it seems like our timing is off, I will happily do my best to reschedule us if our schedules align!
What is the best time of day to take Cherry Blossom photos?
Cherry blossom season us a super popular time for photos and locations can get crowded. I usually recommend a weekday if your schedule allows it but on weekends, try to book between 8 and 10am, or earlier. Especially in Central Park - the earlier the better!
What should I wear and do during my session?
I always say the best sessions are the ones in which you are wearing something you love so first and foremost, wear what's comfortable to you. If that's a ballgown and a suit, great! If it's a t shirt and slacks, that's fine too.
I am never prescriptive or picky about what my clients wear, but I do suggest neutral whites and creams or pastels for this season to allow all the colors around you (and you!) to pop. My exception to this is jewel tones - sometimes, with the lighter blooms, they actually pair nicely.
As for what to do during your session! I will always offer direction and light guidance, but I typically recommend coming as you are and allowing yourself to explore, run, wander and play in the trees! I have also had couples bring a blanket and snacks for a little 'al fresco' intimate session. I am happy to provide more ideas based on what you enjoy!
