My last wedding of 2023 was a very special one.

Regina and Sergey, my beautiful couple, and I had met earlier that year when I took their law and business school grad photos. Fellow cat parents (because of course!), I loved their fun and vibrant energy from the start. After capturing their grad photos (with their moms!) in Dumbo, I said to myself 'I hope they get married one day, and I hope they ask me to capture their wedding!' What can I say? We just clicked right away, and I knew they were my people.

Several months later - I got the message I'd been hoping for. They were engaged! And planning an intimate ceremony for friends and family at a restaurant near where we all lived in December. I was SO excited that I audibly gasped in the library when the text came through - and was promptly shushed by the people sitting near me. Oops.

Though iffy weather threatened our day, we managed to keep the rain at bay long enough to hold their first look by the recently restored Endale Arch in Prospect Park. Prospect Park is one of the most iconic spots in Brooklyn and as it was special to Regina and Serge, we felt it was the perfect spot to have a first look. Their reactions were priceless. Amidst a few tears (shed by us all!), Serge commented on the beauty of Regina's dress, to which she promptly replied 'Thanks! It has pockets!!' - a dress functionality detail that is always appreciated, in my opinion. As the sun set, we walked to their venue - FAUN - a delicious restaurant in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, and prepared for the ceremony.

Set up in Faun's outdoor courtyard space, Regina's brother performed the ceremony, with her nephew looking on. At the end of the ceremony, Regina said 'Let's Party!', and that's exactly what they did! Dinner was served, drinks were poured and the cake (complete with custom cat cake toppers!) was cut while guests milled about a sit down dinner in a relaxed environment. I loved how informal and intimate every piece of their wedding was - so calm and effortless, just like the couple. There was a pure joy and warmth emanating throughout every component of their day - I felt like a guest myself, amongst the kindness of all of their friends and family who were so lovely and welcoming. It was just a perfect night, and the perfect way to end the year!
